About the Role

This is a zero-to-one Senior AI Engineer role for someone who wants to build AI-powered product experiences end to end. You will work across backend, frontend, and deployment to turn proprietary ML algorithms, LLMs, internal embeddings, and structured data models into software that helps users solve complex real-world problems with more confidence than spreadsheets ever could.

Success in this role requires more than making model calls work. You will collaborate closely with the ML team to build experiences that are not only technically strong, but trustworthy in a lab setting. The right person will bring strong product judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to move from idea to shipped software quickly in an early-stage environment.

What You Bring

  • Deep experience integrating LLMs and ML into products (e.g., LangChain, vector DBs, prompt design, model outputs into product).
  • A track record of shipping real products—ideally in vertical SaaS, internal tools, ML/analytics platforms, or enterprise software.
  • The ability to not just write code, but think in product—understanding UX, user value, and workflows.
  • A strong desire to work in-person, as an Individual Contributor, with a small team to move fast and win together.

What You’ll Do

  • Own Zero-to-One Product Features: Translate highly complex physical chemistry, CPG formulation data, and user needs into seamless software features. You will own execution end-to-end (backend, frontend, and deployment).
  • Deeply Embed LLM & ML Systems: Collaborate directly with the ML team to integrate proprietary algorithms, internal embeddings, and structured data models into the core product—going far beyond simple API wrappers to build trust-critical user workflows.
  • Engage Directly with Customers: Work directly with customers (such as R&D chemists and food science experts at major CPG brands) without a PM translation layer, observing their workflows to turn complex feedback into working code quickly.
  • Drive Rapid Shipping Cycles: Participate in our high-agency culture—debating technical approaches on Monday, deciding immediately, and shipping real value to users multiple times a week.

Must-Haves

  • 3+ Years of Full-Stack or Heavy Backend Experience: Deep proficiency in building, scaling, and deploying reliable enterprise software applications or vertical SaaS.
  • Practical ML/LLM Integration Experience: Proven track record working with vector databases, prompt engineering, LangChain (or similar frameworks), and successfully mapping model outputs into production UI/UX.
  • Proven Product Sense: You don’t just write clean code; you think like a product builder who deeply cares about UX, data workflows, and how non-technical users interact with complex software.
  • Extreme Ownership Mindset: Experience working as a former founder, founding engineer, or an early employee who thrives in ambiguous, high-autonomy startup environments.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Relevant Domain Exposure: Prior experience or educational background in physics, physical chemistry, material sciences, or chemical engineering.
  • Industry SaaS Background: Experience building internal tools, complex analytics platforms, or vertical SaaS tailored for highly regulated or deeply technical enterprise industries (e.g., CPG, industrial, or lab environments).
